What is the "No to the firing range" platform

It is a civic platform of the Alter do Chão municipality. It is not a party. It is not a movement. It is an open coordination structure that brings together farmers threatened with expropriation, business owners, environmental associations, technicians, citizens of the municipality and citizens from outside who share the cause. It works in articulation with political forces, institutions and the press, but maintains editorial and operational autonomy.

The platform has three central objectives: to stop the location of the firing range in Alter do Chão in its current delimitation; to ensure that any future decision on national defence respects the technical instruction provided by law; to protect the natural, cultural and economic heritage of the municipality.

How you can get involved

Opposition to a project of this magnitude depends on sustained mobilisation on several fronts at the same time. Each adhesion chooses the form of involvement that best suits their circumstances.

  • Sign and publicise public petition PT130367. Essential action, no costs, with direct effects on the parliamentary procedure.
  • Publicise the cause on social media and in personal circles. Visibility fuels political pressure.
  • Contribute financially to costs of technical opinions, advocacy, expert opinions and production of materials. Each euro is allocated to documented expenses.
  • Attend and intervene in the public consultation of the Environmental Impact Assessment when it opens on the participa.pt portal. Written submissions have technical weight in the procedure.
  • Testify in parliamentary hearings, when the competent Committees of the Assembly of the Republic convene hearings.
  • Provide land, montado or rural building for press reports, photographic records, technical assessments and delegation visits.
  • Share oral memory, old photographs and family documents that help document the patrimonial and productive value of the territory.
  • Join the technical committee (farmers, jurists, biologists, veterinarians, architects, agronomists, historians, journalists) according to competence and availability.
